Jul 21, 2023
Hola Tequila Enthusiasts!
We hope this finds you in high spirits as we approach one of the most exciting days for tequila lovers around the world - World Tequila Day! This year it lands on July 24th.
As always, we want to bring you up to speed with the information that you need to help you make the most of this day dedicated to the Mexican spirit.
Tequila, the iconic spirit of Mexico, is crafted with passion and tradition. It is made from the blue agave plant, in certain areas in Mexico. In the case of Don Julio (the most popular premium Tequila in Mexico), the agave is left to grow for 7-10 years in rich volcanic soil before being harvested by hand. The Piña (heart of the Agave plant) is then slow cooked before a slow fermentation and finally distilled twice in small batches using copper-lined pot stills.
This isn’t the easiest way to make Tequila, but it is the right way. Don Julio Gonzalez himself prided himself on pushing the standard of tequila production throughout his career, leaving us with a legacy of incredible tequila to enjoy and share.
To learn more from some of the most knowledgeable tequila experts in the industry, check out this masterclass with Liam Scandrett of WSET, Karina Sanchez, the Global Don Julio Brand Ambassador, and Eduardo Gomez, Tequila and Mezcal expert and founder of Tequila Fest, as they take you on a journey into this special spirit’s history, taste and flavour.

Of course, Don Julio Tequila is a natural partner to Central and South American cuisines. The Margarita and Paloma work well with main meals, due to the bitter and savoury elements within the drink. Besides international cuisines, they can be consumed with local main dishes like fish & chips and smoked seafood.
The Old Fashioned makes a wonderful dessert cocktail. The rich flavours of the Don Julio Aneio are complimented by the chocolate providing the perfect digestif for any meal.
Salud!
