The Price of Iconic Coffee Around the World
Apr 08, 2024
In a recent SBS News article, Australia and New Zealand are still the best countries to get a delicious Flat White at a reasonable price of less than $5. However, the Flat White isn't every country's...cup of coffee. 😏
So, the Barcats team decided to investigate the popular coffee choices and their prices around the world!
Italy: The Birthplace of Espresso ($2.01)
Coffee has become a culture of its own in Italy. Although the country is known for its wide variety of coffee, the average cup of coffee costs only about $2. Italians enjoy coffee throughout the day, including in the morning, evening, and after dinner.
What to know about the coffee in Italy:
- Cappuccino: 1:1:1 ratio of espresso, steamed milk, foamed milk
- Caffè latte: espresso with more steamed milk and less foam
- Latte macchiato: steamed milk with a splash of espresso
- Caffè americano: diluted/brewed coffee
Japan: Drip Coffee Lovers ($5.33)
Coffee is now very popular in Japan, and it is almost as well-loved as tea. In 2017, Japan was the world's fifth-largest coffee importer. Drip and brewed coffee is the most common type of coffee served here, which is known for its relatively weaker taste and caffeine.
Turkey: The Art of Turkish Coffee ($2.31)
In Turkey, coffee is an art form, especially Turkish coffee. Men gather at the Turkish coffeehouse to socialize, play games, and enjoy a cup of Turkish coffee. The famous Sark Kahvesi in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar offers a cup of Turkish coffee at around $2.
Australia: Embracing Café Culture ($4.5)
In Australia, cafe culture is a way of life, known for its vibrant coffee scene and relaxed atmosphere. As mentioned earlier, the iconic drink is the Flat White. You can learn more about the iconic drink in our feature article HERE.
Conclusion
While Australia and New Zealand remain the go-to destinations for a Flat White at an affordable price, a look into coffee cultures shows you'll enjoy a good cup at a decent price anywhere. Whether you prefer a classic espresso or a meticulously brewed drip coffee, there's a coffee experience waiting to be savored around every corner.
